The expectations were high for the Dallas Cowboys heading into the 2019 NFL season. With Dak Prescott as the team's franchise quarterback along with the other talent on their team, they were supposed to win the NFC East. It obviously didn't end up playing out that way, though.

It doesn't take long to see how impressive Prescott was for the Cowboys. He capped it off by completing 69.7% of his passes for 303 passing yards and four touchdowns against the Washington Redskins in Week 17. He ended the season with a 65.1% completion percentage, 4,902 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Prescott ended up being one yard short of tying Tony Romo's record for the most passing yards in a single-season in Cowboys history. That achievement wasn't something Prescott was hunting for as his focus was simply on giving his team its best chance of winning. In fact, he said he didn't deserve because he didn't make the playoffs.

“I didn’t know that until I pretty much figured out that the Eagles had won,” Prescott said, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “So I got all of that together at once. But I didn’t make the playoffs and I deserve to be second. As I’ve said, I don’t play the game for stats. I play the game to win. So I’m OK with being there, being one yard short of him. It’s fine.”

The fact that Prescott was more focused on winning than he was on his own personal statistics shows great leadership. When considering how he played through multiple injuries that almost surely made his job considerably more difficult, his contributions become even more impressive. There should be no concern about Prescott being a trustworthy personality to give a large contract to.

With a point differential of 113 points, it's clear Prescott can effectively lead the Cowboys' offense. However, Dallas will need to improve on the defensive side of the ball primarily, but improving their offensive execution against winning teams will be important to achieve, too. The greatest example came with the NFC East on the line when they put up just nine points against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16.

The focus for both the Cowboys and Dak Prescott will need to shift to reaching an agreement on a new contract and bolstering their roster with offseason moves. The production he had during the 2019 season will warrant a hefty payday and Dallas showing their commitment to him will be important.
