This has been an offseason filled with non-basketball issues affecting what happens on the court. That trend continued on Tuesday during the preseason contest between the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies.

Players and fans alike had to evacuate after the fire alarm for the building went off.

Thankfully, it seems to have been a false alarm. According to the Grizzlies official Twitter account, the issue occurred in a non-public area and so far nobody appears to be harmed.

The Grizzlies-Bucks game was eventually suspended, with the league releasing an official statement on the matter.

“The Milwaukee Bucks at Memphis Grizzlies preseason has been suspended at the conclusion of the third quarter due to a fire alarm issue. at FedEx Forum. With the lengthy delay, the league, in consultation with the Bucks and Grizzlies has determined not to complete the game in the interest of player safety.”

The decision not to finish the Grizzlies-Bucks contest makes perfect sense. Although the issue didn't appear to be anything overtly dangerous, the fact that this was a non-bearing preseason game makes any sort of risk unnecessary.

Hopefully the only thing that ever gets on fire next season are the players when they they start shooting the lights out.
