As part of a recent interview with The Athletic, Miami Heat forward Andre Iguodala claimed that the Memphis Grizzlies came to him about not reporting to the team while he was on the roster.

Iguodala was traded from the Warriors to the Grizzlies over the summer. According to reports, the three-time champion was not happy with this move, and he decided to sit out until the Grizzlies either bought him out or found a suitable trade partner.

Some thought Iguodala was simply snubbing the Grizzlies by sitting out, but he says there was actually a mutual agreement:

Iguodala: I just think I was in a unique position, and I just assessed the position and said, ‘You know, what can I do going forward?’ And it wasn’t just me. I’ve got to say that too. You know, there was an agreement on both sides.

The Athletic: Is that the case?

Iguodala: For sure.

The Athletic: Because there’s some local media in Memphis who acted like that wasn’t the case.

Iguodala: Well, that’s always going to be the case. That’s what I’m saying. That’s why I said I didn’t do anything special, and that’s why I’m saying that I’m joking about the ‘case study’ part because there was a mutual agreement. … It was brought to me, you understand what I’m saying? It was brought to me. The (Warriors) trade happens, and it’s brought to me, (and he’s told), “Hey, we know you’re coming from this situation and, you know, it may not be ideal for you…”

I never approached anyone to say, “Hey, this is not somewhere that I want to be, and I’m not going to show up.” That never occurred. But that’s never going to get put out there because, you know…

Iguodala was traded to the Heat just before this season's deadline as part of a three-team deal. His debut with Miami did not go all that well, as he scored just two points, six rebounds and three assists in a 115-109 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. To be fair, though, it was his first game back since last season's NBA Finals.

“It felt good tonight,” Iguodala said, via ESPN. “I wanted to get a feel for where I was at. Honestly, I haven't even played a pickup game or anything since the finals. I was trying to get a feel for where my mind was. Overall, I felt really good out there.”

Iguodala will face off against his former team on Monday night when the Heat face off against the Warriors inside the Golden 1 Center.

As for the Grizzlies, they will host the Blazers on Wednesday.
