The Memphis GrizzliesChandler Parsons has denied a report that the team has come up to him about the possibility of retirement due to injury. He deemed it fake news in his Twitter post, referring to an earlier tweet from one of the Grizzlies’ beat writers.

Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal posted the unconfirmed report on his Twitter account.

Parsons, likely annoyed with the report, then responded, “with tweets like this, you’ll retire before me. #FakeNews”

Parsons has been battling a sore back, hasn't been allowed to play in back-to-back games. He hasn’t played since December 27 and Parsons will miss Monday's game against the Suns due to a knee injury.

According to a RotoWire report via CBS,

“Parsons (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Suns.

This will be Parsons' 14th consecutive absence as he continues to battle right knee soreness, and while he is considered day-to-day, it's unclear exactly when he'll be able to return to the floor. Until the Grizzlies provide a timetable for Parsons, he'll continue to be evaluated on a game-by-game basis.”

The 6-foot-10 small forward is being paid $23,112,004 to play this season, making Chandler Parsons a very expensive player on the team’s injury list. He hasn’t played as well in Memphis as he did during his years with the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks.

Parsons has played in just 26 games this season and has paltry averages of 8.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game — numbers that greatly shortchange the Grizzlies' financial obligations on him.
