Context is key. That was the case following the riveting Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves game on Saturday that saw Minnesota escape with a 119-118 victory. Timberwolves' beat reporter Chris Hine sent out the following Tweet discussing a situation involving Grizzlies' star Ja Morant and Timberwolves' star Anthony Edwards in the hallway after the contest.

Whether Hine is insinuating that the two were beefing or not is unclear. However, it does seem as if Hine is attempting to paint this picture in a fairly negative light. And that is how Ja Morant reacted the Tweet.

Morant replied with two Tweets in response to Hines.

Morant's reply helped to quiet rumors of negative affliction between the two players.

As aforementioned, context is key. SB Nation's Canis Hoopus explained another way of looking at the conversation that transpired between Morant and Edwards.

“Just to be clear — Chris is 100% correct. This actually happened. Multiple people by the locker room witnessed it. It was two young stars joking around and showing mutual respect for each other’s game & health. Really cool moment, not sure why anyone would try to discredit it.”

Opponents are allowed to engage in friendly banter. There does not always need to be beef or animosity between players.

At the same time, Ja Morant and Anthony Edwards both want to desperately defeat each other in this competitive series. They may be friends off the court, but we should expect them to play as hard as possible against one another in this exciting series that is currently all knotted up at 2 games apiece.
