The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Thursday rookie point guard Ja Morant has fully recovered from his knee surgery and will participate in training camp.

Morant had an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee in June. He was selected by the Grizzlies with the second overall pick in this year’s draft. Ja didn’t play in the Las Vegas Summer League because of the knee surgery.

Ja Morant is the new floor general in Memphis. The Grizzlies traded franchise icon Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz this summer. Grizzlies fans are going to miss Conley, but they are really excited for the Morant era to begin.

Morant put on a show last season at Murray State. The explosive guard averaged 24.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 10.0 assists while shooting 49.9 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from beyond the arc and 81.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Against Marquette in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Morant recorded a triple-double. The Grizzlies are thrilled to pair Morant with second-year big man Jaren Jackson Jr., who put up 13.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in his rookie year in 58 games.

Morant told Yahoo Sports a few months ago Houston Rockets superstar Russell Westbrook is his favorite player in the NBA. Ja said he’s a big fan of Westbrook’s all-around game and wants to play like Russ with the Grizzlies.
