A lot has been said about Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant and the amazing debut campaign he has had so far. However, there is perhaps no higher praise than the recent statement of Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, who claims that Morant is the future of the NBA.

According to the Detroit Pistons legend, he firmly believes that Morant is the one to watch when it comes to the up-and-coming point guards in the league.

“I think in Ja we are watching the next generation of the great point guards that have been coming through our league,” Isiah Thomas said of the Grizzlies rookie, via Sky Sports. “You have that group of Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, John Wall and so forth, but for the younger generation of point guards, I think Ja – who is projected to win the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year award – is going to be leading that evolution of great point guard play.”

Thomas' statement here is already amazing in itself, but the fact that it comes from one of the best point guards of all time — a 12-time All-Star and two-time NBA champ — makes it even more of an ultimate compliment for Ja Morant and his potential.

As Thomas stated above, Morant is currently the front runner for the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year award. New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson appeared poise to make a late run, but the season hiatus has cut him short of his attempt to dethrone the Grizzlies' rising star. Nevertheless, what is clear is that these two budding superstars will have long, successful careers ahead of them that will run parallel towards one another.
