The suspension of the 2019-20 NBA season prevented a hyped conclusion to a likely Rookie of the Year finish for Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant.

Morant, the second overall pick by the Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Murray State, soared to the top of the Rookie of the Year leaderboard with his explosive playmaking, clutch down-the-stretch performances, and eruptive dunks over bigger opponents. It also helped that he has led Memphis to a surprise playoff contention in the rugged Western Conference.

Now, amid the NBA hiatus, Morant picked the favorite play of his rookie season while speaking on ESPN's flagship program Sports Center.

Spoiler alert: Ja Morant picked a Nov. 13, 2019 game-winning layup against the Charlotte Hornets in Buzz City, which left less than a second on the clock. The Grizzlies won the game while Morant finished with 23 points and 11 assists.

Morant's rookie season was especially exciting given the rising young core Memphis boasts. Alongside the former Murray State phenom is second-year big man Jaren Jackson Jr., third-year shooting guard Dillon Brooks, and fellow rookie in forward Brandon Clarke.

The Grizzlies also acquired 24-year-old wing Justise Winslow from the Miami Heat in the Andre Iguodala deal. The ex-Duke standout is signed to a contract that could keep him in Memphis through the 2021-22 season.

While Morant's first season could potentially end without a concrete resolution due to the forced hiatus, his future is no less exciting.
