Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks bested Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night. The two young star point guards had a nice back-and-forth in Atlanta's 122-112 win, with Young even firing a savage gesture toward Morant at one point in the contest.

After the game, Morant spoke about his budding rivalry with Young and attributed the competition to their desire to become the best player in the league.

For the second straight game, the Grizzlies could not take advantage of an outstanding performance from the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year. Ja Morant tallied 28 points, three rebounds and seven assists, all while shooting 10-of-21 from the field. This performance followed up an amazing 44-point effort in their opening night loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

The opposite can be said about Trae Young, whose strong start to the season has led to a promising 2-0 start for the Hawks. Ice Trae scored a game-high 36 points on Saturday, adding three rebounds and nine assists on 10-of-24 shooting from the field and 15-of-17 from the free throw line.  He also delivered the dagger layup with a little under a minute left to put away Memphis for good.

Young also had a strong season debut, during which he had 36 points on just 12 shot attempts.

Morant certainly looks like he's going to have a breakout campaign with the way his first two games have gone so far. Unfortunately, his strong performances have not led to wins for the Grizzlies. Memphis is dealing with a slew of injuries to begin the 2020-21 campaign. Jaren Jackson Jr. is out indefinitely with a knee injury, while Justise Winslow is still sidelined with a hip issue. The two forwards suffered their respective injuries while playing in the Orlando restart for the 2019-20 season.
