On the day that NBA free agency began, Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant stole the show. It's been reported that Durant has requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. This comes just days after his teammate, Kyrie Irving, opted in apparently looking to run it back. The crazy news sent shock waves throughout the NBA, and that includes Memphis Grizzlies rising superstar Ja Morant.

As soon as the news broke, Morant took to Twitter and left but two words.

“Easy money,” Morant wrote.

It's a new NBA world that we live in. Long gone are the days where teams and franchises dictate terms for player movement. Players like Kevin Garnett and LeBron James set the precedent over 10 years ago. Now, players with the stature of Kevin Durant can simply tell the team to trade them and they essentially have to bend to their will.

It's been reported that the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat are the preferred destinations for Durant. Granted, that does not mean that Brooklyn will ship him there. As a matter of fact, they probably will not be looking to do him any favors after this about face.

Durant signed a four-year $198 million extension last August. It was believed that the Nets were still going to be contenders. Last season was a bit of an aberration. Irving didn't even play half of the season because of his refusal to get vaccinated. The James Harden experiment blew up in their face. After trading him away for Ben Simmons, the defensive stalwart failed to get on the court.

Despite all of that, there was optimism for next season. All of that went out the window with trade request from Kevin Durant.
