J.B. Bickerstaff and the Memphis Grizzlies have finally sealed the deal. Bickerstaff has agreed to a three-year pact with the Grizzlies as head coach.

The news was confirmed by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN:

JB Bickerstaff has agreed to a three-year contract to become the Memphis Grizzlies' head coach, league sources tell ESPN. Bickerstaff was Memphis’ interim coach for most of the 2017-18 season.

To recall, Bickerstaff was named interim head coach after the controversial firing of David Fizdale on November 27, after a 7-12 start. In 63 games, Bickerstaff, 39, led the Grizzlies to a 15-48 record. Overall, the Grizzlies finished with a 22-60 record.

This is Bickerstaff’s first shot as a full-fledged head coach. He was also an interim coach during the 2015-16 season for the Houston Rockets, after the firing of Kevin McHale. In his stint with the Rockets, he guided the team to a 37-34 record which included a playoff berth.

The Grizzlies were out with star guard Mike Conley last season. On top of which, they just couldn't find the right formula to win. High marks were expected from the team last year. It immediately went downhill from the very beginning, more so with the firing of Fizdale which players all over the NBA didn't agree with.

They now have a chance to get a top-three pick in the upcoming 2018 NBA Draft. With a newly-minted coach and a forgettable season behind them, the Grizzlies are looking to start anew.

They now have a new head coach, perhaps the next step is to re-sign or sign players that can fit his system. It's going to be a long offseason for the reeling Grizzlies, but they're off to a good start.
