Joakim Noah had a tumultuous tenure with the New York Knicks, but the former Defensive Player of the Year doesn't have anything bad to say about New York. Rather than dwell on the past, Noah is focused on his new situation with the Memphis Grizzlies.
“I just don’t want to get caught up in negative things, politics,” Joakim Noah said to Omari Sankofa II of The Athletic. “A lot definitely happened in New York, a lot of frustration on both sides. I still love New York. I have nothing bad to say. Things happened. Right now I just want to focus on this new chapter in my life and this organization.”
This is a smart move by Noah. No one in New York looked good while he was with the Knicks. Phil Jackson looked bad for signing Noah to the inflated contract. Former Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek didn't look good for letting his relationship with Noah deteriorate to the point of exile. Furthermore, Noah made his fair share of mistakes as well.
It's best for everyone involved to move forward. The Knicks are building towards the future and focusing on the development of their young players. The Grizzlies are battling it out in the Western Conference and looking to make the playoffs after their disappointing season last year.
Joakim Noah is hoping to get back to his defensive roots with the Grizzlies. The big man has long been an excellent team defender and a tireless worker. As a second unit player, Noah can bring some energy off the bench.
