The Memphis Grizzlies surprised many during the offseason when they allowed Zach Randolph and Tony Allen to leave in free agency. Both were key players for them, but the team opted to bring in younger players to their fold instead in the hopes of continuing their run of success in the years to come.

However, for Marc Gasol, he believes that his team made a mistake in parting ways with them, as they could've brought more wins if they were still playing together. He made his sentiments known, via Clay Bailey of the Associated Press, and made it clear that he is not a fan of the Grizzlies' decision.

“Gasol called letting forward Zach Randolph and guard Tony Allen leave as free agents last summer a mistake.”

The former Defensive Player of the Year then added, via Ron Tillery of The Commercial-Appeal that he doesn't understand why their core was broken apart.

He believes the franchise broke up the “core four” too soon.

“I didn’t understand the why,” Gasol said.

“Zach and Tony being gone has been more difficult than you guys can see on the floor.”

As it turned out, the Sacramento Kings took advantage of the situation and quickly made a move for Randolph and another former Grizzlies player, Vince Carter, as they were in need of veterans who can help their cause. Allen, on the other hand, landed with the New Orleans Pelicans and is now providing them with his prowess on the defensive end.

The Grizzlies have been struggling this season, and only has a 10-23 record to show. While injuries have also factored into their current situation, one thing that's certain is that they miss the services of Randolph and Allen. There is a clear need for changes to be made in order to turn their fortunes around, and it will be very interesting to find out what their front office will do to address this as the season progresses.
