The tumultuous 2017-18 NBA season continued for the Memphis Grizzlies in the month of December. As a result, there has been some speculation regarding on the Grizzlies' goals for the remainder of the year.

While many teams have already committed toward building through the offseason, it seems star center Marc Gasol is not yet ready to throw in the towel. According to Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal, Gasol is adamant about helping his team stay focused on this season.

“My job is not allowing that to happen,” Gasol said. “My job is not allowing anyone to throw away the season. Because at 32, 33 next month, I don’t have a season to throw away. I don’t have those. I don’t have that luxury. I’m not 23, 24, where I can just say, `Well, next year it’s going to be better.’ I have that sense of urgency and desire to win… I hope that during the next five, six weeks before the break that the situation has completely changed, turned around, and we are a much more consistent team going forward.”

The Grizzlies have long been a legitimate playoff contender in the Western Conference. That said, it is a bit disappointing to see them take a huge step back this year in terms of their progression.

Despite all the turbulence the Grizzlies are experiencing this year, Marc Gasol has not letup a single bit in his performance. The three-time All-Star is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds in 35.1 minutes per game this season. With Gasol set to turn 33 in January, it is safe to say that he is no longer playing for next year.
