It has been an utterly forgettable season for the bottom-feeding Memphis Grizzlies, falling well short of the playoffs — and way early at that — for the first time in seven seasons. There have been many reasons for disappointment with the team falling to one of the worst marks in the league.

However, Marc Gasol has continued to be one of the lone bright spots throughout the year. Gasol has been able to notch his place in NBA history despite the Grizzlies' struggles on the court this season.

The 33-year-old has continued to adapt his game to the current NBA style by stretching his shooting ability to outside the 3-point line that has helped him put his place in league history. He is nearing the conclusion of another productive campaign, averaging 17.2 points with 8.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.4 blocks per contest. The fact that he has been able to join two players at other positions for this unique mark shows his special ability on the court.

Gasol currently leads the Grizzlies with 25 double‐doubles, including one triple‐double, which marks the fourth time in his career that he has notched at least 20 double‐doubles in a single season. He has developed into an all-around offensive talent that can impact the game greatly on both ends of the floor. Gasol has become a more reliable scorer over the last several years that had helped him form a formidable duo alongside Mike Conley to help make the Grizzlies a constant in the playoffs.

It has been a season for many major individual milestones for Gasol as he has become the all-time franchise leader in points, minutes played, and field goals made. He has also joined a select group of players that have played at least 700 career games with a single franchise joining the likes of his teammate Mike Conley, the Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki, the San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, the Miami Heat's Udonis Haslem, the Oklahoma City Thunder's Nick Collison and Russell Westbrook, and the L.A. Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan.
