The Memphis Grizzlies era of Grit-n-Grind will surely take a hit with the loss of Zach Randolph and the impending departure of All-NBA defender Tony Allen as an unrestricted free agent, but Marc Gasol isn't ready to throw in the towel quite yet.

The Spanish international will have not only a hefty scoring task on the low-block, but also the responsibility of instilling toughness in those around him in hopes of keeping the team mantra alive.

“I’m very ambitious and I’ve wanted Memphis to be a great franchise,” Gasol told Catalan website Ala Carta, translated by HoopsHype. “We’ve grown a lot the last six to seven years, but we have to keep growing. If this is not lined up, maybe we may have to revisit things.”

Memphis will still count with floor general Mike Conley Jr., who had a career-year last season, averaging 20.5 points and 6.3 assists per game in 2016-17.

Yet the franchise will have to assess a tough balance of established veteran players in Conley and Gasol and the myriad of young faces getting acclimated to a tough brand of basketball that the organization and its fan expect on a nightly basis.

This season should serve as a measuring stick to see what route the franchise will take going forward and if there's indeed a need to revisit things as Gasol said.
