The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly “certain” they will trade exiled forward Andre Iguodala, who has been working out away from the team since being acquired in a trade with the Golden State Warriors in the summer. According to Omari Sankofa II of The Athletic, there is confidence from the Grizzlies front office that they will get the first-round pick they have long been asking for since he was put on the trade block earlier this summer.

“The word since the summer has been that the Grizzlies are looking for a promising asset in return for Iguodala, whom they received along with a protected future first. That hasn't changed. The Grizzlies are certain that Iguodala will be moved before the deadline and have engaged several teams on frameworks for potential deals. There's confidence that Memphis will be able to land a first-round pick or promising young player in return, as preferred by the front office.”

Many teams have been hesitant to shell out a first-round selection for a player that could be nothing more than a late-season rental and walk away for nothing at the end of the 2019-20 season. Teams like the Houston Rockets have reportedly thrown in the towel after trying three- and four-team trade scenarios, all for naught.

Some have speculated a potential return to the Warriors next season once the hard-cap restrictions are lifted, due to his longstanding friendships with the team and his deep investments in the Silicon Valley market — ones he's forged from the time he touched down in the Bay Area in 2013.
