The Memphis Grizzlies have decided to waive shooting guard Andrew Harrison, according to the team.

Harrison, now 24 years of age, had fallen out of the rotation in Memphis. In fact, he appeared in just one game with the Grizzlies this season, scoring two points. Michael Wallace of Grizzlies.com feels that this move, which bring's the team's roster to 14 men, was made to free up some financial burden. Memphis will save $1.5 million, as Harrison’s contract was not guaranteed.

Harrison played in 56 games with the Grizzlies last season (46 starts), averaging 9.5 points on 42.2 percent shooting from the field (33.1 percent from beyond the arc), 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

The Phoenix Suns selected Harrison with the 44th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. His rights were then traded to the Grizzlies in exchange for Jon Leuer. The San Antonio native played his collegiate ball at Kentucky, where he averaged 10.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 79 games.

Harrison has also spent some time in the G League, serving a stint with the Iowa Energy. In his G League debut — a 98-95 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce — the crafty guard recorded 11 points and seven assists in 29 minutes.

Where Harrison will land next remains to be seen.

Memphis will be back in action on Friday night, when they'll travel to Utah for a matchup against the Jazz. Tip-off inside Vivint Smart Home Arena is set for 9:00 p.m. ET.
