Memphis Grizzlies guard Mike Conley understands the difficulties that come along with being involved in NBA trade discussions.

Conley's comments on the matter come days after a wild sequence of events that included a failed three-team trade involving the Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, and Washington Wizards.

Reports suggested that what held the trade back was confusion regarding whether Memphis would be sending Dillon Brooks or MarShon Brooks in the deal, and when more information was made available, it was MarShon who was likely to be headed elsewhere.

So, after such a wacky situation, Conley knows how hard it can be to have your name attached to a potential trade.

Here's what he had to say about the strange world of trades and the impact on Brooks and fellow teammate Wayne Selden, courtesy of Omari Sankofa II of The Athletic:

“Speaking from my experience, I know it’s hard for them,” Conley continued. “I know it’s going to be hard, just having your name in trade talks to begin with is tough because you wanna perform for that team, but at the same they might be wanting to trade you, whatever. I know, just by speaking with the guys, MarShon’s a vet, he’s been through a lot. Wayne, I’ll try to let him learn from my experience. I’ve been, not in the same situation but I think every player in the league has been through something of the sort like that because this is a business. Just tell him it’ll be all right and things can work out as long as you stay locked in and focused on everyday things.”

It's not an ideal situation to rejoin a team that seemingly had you all but officially dealt, but that's the spot that Brooks and Selden find themselves in.

The Grizzlies return to the court on Monday night to take on the Golden State Warriors.
