Following a 7-12 record to begin the 2017-18 NBA season, the Memphis Grizzlies fired head coach David Fizdale. Since then, they have lost nine of their last 11 games.

With a relatively new roster and Mike Conley expected to miss two more weeks with a sore left heel, it has only created more speculation about Marc Gasol and the Grizzlies parting ways. In an interview with Chris Herrington of Commercial Appeal, the 32-year-old reiterated being open to a trade:

Correct. That won’t change. But, obviously, if they decide to go a different direction…I’ve said it before, I’ll do anything. I’ll make everybody look good. I’ll say to you guys whatever I need to say if I need to go anywhere else and they need to [pursue] a goal where I’m not the guy.

After making eight consecutive playoff appearances, the Grizzlies are in a difficult position. While they are competitive with Conley in the starting lineup, the question is if it is time to embrace a full rebuilding process.

Should Memphis ultimately embrace this route, there are plenty of teams like the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors who could offer attractive trade packages. For Gasol, he would help one of these teams take the next step and give himself a better chance of winning at this stage of his career.
