Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies unleashed a nasty crossover that put Robert Covington of the Minnesota Timberwolves in skates en route to a smooth layup.

Covington, a member of the 2018 NBA All-Defensive First Team, looked silly facing up against the rookie Morant.

The 20-year-old Morant has been favored by various fans and analysts to win the Rookie of the Year this season. After all, the second overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft has been doing marvelous things.

In 31 games (31 starts), Morant is averaging 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.0 steal. Apart from the numbers, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins has entrusted Morant to orchestrate the team's offense. Not many rookies in league history get that opportunity.

Covington certainly had great intentions in trying to defend the rookie. He's very capable of doing so. But he may need to study more film if he wants to contain the super rookie.

The Grizzlies entered the game at 15-22 on the season and will host the San Antonio Spurs on Friday before taking on the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.
