Morant and his father are from Sumter, South Carolina, which is only about two hours away from the Spectrum Center, which is where the Hornets play their home games. As such, the crowd was full of Morant supporters, so it seemed only fitting that the 20-year-old would go off with his dad and other family members in the crowd.
After a terrific sophomore campaign in college, Morant has firmly established himself as a Rookie of the Year frontrunner as his Grizzlies have been fairly feisty to start the season.
Beyond relative team success, Morant is stuffing the stat sheet in his first professional season with 17.8 points per game, 5.2 assists per game, 3.6 rebounds per game and 1.0 steals per game, according to Basketball Reference. The Murray State product also has a thrilling 30-point game on his rookie resume.
