Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant was invited to do the honors of smashing a guitar prior to the Memphis 901 FC game on Saturday at AutoZone Park.

Morant, selected by the Grizzlies with the second overall pick in Thursday's draft, came out from the dugout with the guitar in hand, and smashed it on the amplifier sitting on the ground. It took him two hits to fully destroy the guitar, but Morant made the tradition work:

Morant certainly received a lot of love from the Grizzlies fans in attendance. The crowd even broke out into a “Ja Morant, he's one of our own!” chant prior to the pregame tradition.

Memphis is making sure that the 19-year-old feels like a rock star. He certainly got that treatment on Saturday.

The previous Grit ‘n' Grind regime officially ended last week when the Grizzlies parted ways with veteran point guard Mike Conley and sent him to the Utah Jazz. Prior to the trade, Conley was the only remaining core piece of the Grit ‘n' Grind Grizzlies from the earlier part of the decade.

When the Grizzlies received the No. 2 overall pick during the draft lottery in May, many thought about the prospect of Conley serving as a mentor for Morant. However, they are going all in with the Murray State standout from the get go.

Morant and All-Rookie First-Team member Jaren Jackson Jr. figure to be the main catalysts of ushering in the new era in Memphis. This pairing has a ton of upside as a deadly one-two punch in the future.
