Tom Hanks narrated the Cleveland Guardians debut trailer for social media, and he will now reportedly throw out the first pitch in their April 15th home opener. This will be the first season since 1915 that the team will not be called the Indians. Hanks is happy to help the organization transition into this new Guardians era

It also helps that he happens to be a fan of the team

“I’ve had Guardians fever since 1977 when I caught my first game in Section 19 of Cleveland’s Lakefront Municipal Stadium. I’m honored to return to Cleveland and Progressive Field for the first home game of the Cleveland Guardians era.”

Hanks’s main tie to Cleveland is the Great Lakes Theater Festival. He started his acting career by studying theater and was invited to intern in Cleveland for the Great Lakes Festival in the 1970's. He ended up dropping out of college and spent three years working in Cleveland as a result. This was also when his Cleveland baseball fandom initially began.

The Guardians will host the San Francisco Giants in their home opener. Ace Shane Bieber will take the mound to kick off the Guardians home era. Bieber won the Cy Young award two years ago and made the All-Star team last season before missing most of the second half due to an injury.

The Cleveland Guardians would love nothing more than to earn a win against the Giants on April 15th. A victory would help excite the home fan base and bring a good aura around this new Guardians name. But regardless of the outcome, having an A-list celebrity like Tom Hanks in attendance and throwing out the first pitch will get things started on a high note.
