After betting on himself by deciding not to sign an extension with the Golden State Warriors last year, Harrison Barnes was rewarded during this year’s lucrative free-agency period with a four-year, $94.4 million deal. However, a twist in the plot meant that the contract was signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

When Kevin Durant‘s huge free-agency decision was made to head to the Bay Area, Barnes’ time in Warriors' blue was brought to an abrupt end. Re-signing with the team he won an NBA championship with in the 2014-15 season was no longer an option.

During the Mavericks media day on Monday, Barnes was asked by reporters how much Warriors basketball he will be watching throughout the season.

Unlike on most basketball fans, it seems as though the 24-year-old isn’t all that intrigued to see how Durant will mesh with the already stacked roster in Golden State.

Barnes will join his former Warriors teammate Andrew Bogut, who was traded to Dallas to make room for Durant. Both players played a significant part in the 2015 championship and the record breaking, 73 win regular season of last year.

Mavericks head coach, Rick Carlisle, spoke about Barnes’ increased role.

“I talked to him this summer a lot about that,” said Carlisle. “Bottom line is that it's a challenge that he's got to love to take on. The important thing is that an elevation in responsibility comes at the right rate.”
