Do not even think about comparing Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside to L.A. Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan; the former will set you straight before a mic is raised to get this take.

When Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post asked him if there was any similarities between the two, the Heat rim defender was straight forward in his response.

“No,” Whiteside said matter-of-factly. “He catches lobs. I shoot jumpers, catch lobs, block shots. I do a lot. He just catches lobs.”

“It don’t really matter to me who I’m guarding,” Whiteside added about the matchup. “I just come out here and just play. He catches lobs. He has CP3 (Chris Paul) as a point guard.”

While the later part of his response is very unlikely a dig to his point guard, Goran Dragic, the 7-footer does have a point — his shot and post-game are a lot more refined than Jordan's, and unlike his counterpart, he's making just as much of an impact on the offensive end as he is on defense.

Whiteside is leading the NBA in rebounds, a whisker short of 15 rebounds per game, and fourth in blocks with 2.3 per game.

Even if Jordan is a strong interior defender in his own right, Whiteside has shown to be an elite defender, hence the 10-block performances the past two seasons. His constantly evolving offensive repertoire is making a notorious separation between the two.

Despite the fact that “he just catches lobs” might be selling his counterpart short, the Marshall standout has been rapidly adding to his arsenal, going from a dangerous defender to an all-around threat on the court.
