For most NBA stars, extra income comes from endorsements that are made possible by their market appeal. Dewayne Dedmon, however, isn’t the type that advertisers would invest in to endorse their products. That’s why a particular stipulation on Dedmon’s contract with the Atlanta Hawks is very much a welcome opportunity for the big man to earn more dough.

According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, Dedmon stands to earn close to a million dollars more next season if he fulfills some statistical feats.

Dewayne Dedmon‘s new contract with the Hawks includes a fascinating incentive — the center will get $900K if he appears in 41 or more games and averages 16 or more combined points, rebounds, and assists.

Dedmon signed a two-year $14.1 million contract with the Hawks over the summer after declining to pick up his $3.03 million player option with the San Antonio Spurs. The gamble obviously paid off for Dedmon, who will enter the 2017-18 season coming on the heels of averaging 5.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game across 76 games.

Dedmon, 28, has played at least 58 games in each of his last three seasons in the league and looks very capable of surpassing his career averages for both points (4.3) and rebounds (5.1) with the Hawks, as he’ll have plenty of minutes as the projected starting center of the team. Increasing his assist total, however, is the biggest challenge for the former USC Trojan, who has dished out just 0.3 dimes per game in his career.
