The NBA regular season is fast approaching, meaning that it’s high times for teams to load up on players to help their respective squads prepare. For the Atlanta Hawks, they just added one in 2012 Slam Dunk Contest king Jeremy Evans, whom the team signed to a training camp deal according to a source as reported by Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Hawks have agreed to a contract with forward Jeremy Evans, according to a person familiar with the situation. The former NBA Slam Dunk Champion will come to training camp with the team.

Like other training camp deals, there is no assurance for Evans that he’ll be suiting up for the Hawks on opening day, but he’ll be guaranteed a spot in Atlanta’s G-League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks. For the meantime, he’s got the training camp to prove he deserves a shot at another stint in the NBA.

Evans last took the NBA court back in the 2015-16 season, playing 30 games for the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks traded him to the Indiana Pacers in 2016 before Indiana waived him just before the 2016-17 campaign.

Evans was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft and played five seasons for the team. He has career NBA averages of 2.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
