The Atlanta Hawks on Friday waived Nicolas Brussino in order to make room for a roster spot, per Shams Charania of The Vertical.

The Hawks claimed Brussino off waivers in July. The Dallas Mavericks waived him just one year after signing him to a multiyear contract, per Basketball Reference.

Brussino played only four games for the Hawks this season, and averaged 0.8 rebounds in only 2.5 minutes per game. He did not score a single point.

Before his stint in Atlanta, he spent some time with the Texas Legends, Dallas' G League team. He played 54 games with the Mavericks and averaged 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds.

As it's getting closer to Dec. 15 — the date teams can officially trade players signed over the summer — it makes sense that the Hawks would make a move like this. They signed a host of players in the offseason, and perhaps are looking to move on from one of them.

Which one is anyone's guess.

The Hawks have been awful this season, with a 5-19 record, which puts them 14th in the Eastern Conference, above only the 3-20 Chicago Bulls. It stands to reason that everyone on Atlanta's roster is expendable, including dynamic point guard Dennis Schroder.

The Hawks need to do something to make this season somewhat respectable. A roster shakeup could be just what the doctor ordered.
