The Atlanta Hawks traded for Chandler Parsons on Tuesday, which is a deal that could pave the way for the return of Vince Carter to the team next season.

According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the Hawks were unlikely to sign Carter to a new deal earlier in the offseason. However, while there is nothing imminent at this point, he believes that the Parsons trade “makes it more feasible” for the Hawks to bring Carter back next season.

The Hawks acquired Parsons in exchange for Solomon Hill and Miles Plumlee. The deal did not give the Hawks some cap relief, but it allowed them to create one roster spot for next season, which they can eventually use for Carter. The 42-year-old veteran has expressed desire to play again next season for his farewell tour in the league.

Carter previously said that he is open to returning to the Hawks. He also revealed that next season, if ever he gets signed, will be his final year in the league.

“I've got one more in me,” Carter said on The Jump last month. “One more run.”

Carter played 76 games with the Hawks last season, including nine starts for the relatively young squad.

He had decent contributions, as he posted 7.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 17.5 minutes, while also providing the needed veteran presence inside the locker room.
