Atlanta Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge at the suburb of Brookhaven during the early hours of the morning on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. He was released on bail soon after.

The Hawks released the following statement.

“We are aware of an incident involving Dennis Schroder earlier this morning. We are still gathering information as it pertains to the situation, and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Schroder is coming off his first season as the starting point guard of the team, averaging 17.9 points and 6.3 assists per game in the first year of the post-Jeff-Teague era.

The German international also represented his country in this year's EuroBasket, netting a tournament second-best 23.7 points per game, behind Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic and one spot over New York Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis.

The 24-year-old was recently featured in a Hawks ad for the season-opener against the Denver Nuggets, but could face discipline from the league, as he is also subject to fines and suspensions under the personal conduct policy in his contract.
