Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins is expected to miss several more weeks with a bothersome ankle injury and is expecting a return date in early November, according to Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Collins would miss nine more games and looks poised for a return in the second week of November.

Collins has missed the first three games of the regular season due to an injury to his left ankle. He underwent a non-surgical procedure, described as an injection, in early October, but he has not yet returned to on-court activity.

The second-year player is likely to be a staple in the starting lineup and a go-to player with Dennis Schroder out of town. He's expected to get run as the team's focal point alongside rookie point guard Trae Young.

The Wake Forest star was said to be on track in his recovery following a recent visit to a physician, but will be re-evaluated by the Hawks’ medical staff on Tuesday to re-assess his timetable for recovery.

Collins was named to the All-Rookie second team last season after averaging 10.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks. While those are modest numbers compared to the show-stopping ones displayed by Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons and runner-up Donovan Mitchell, Collins is expected to build on those numbers with ample playing time and an unobstructed path to the starting power forward spot.

The 21-year-old John Collins played only 24 minutes per game last season, getting 26 starts through his 74 appearances with the Hawks.
