Atlanta Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce is already planning to take advantage of the versatility of Cam Reddish.

Pierce said that Reddish will likely play as a backup point guard at times, relieving incoming second-year guard Trae Young. The second-year head coach added that the rookie will also play off the ball and is also expected to contribute on both ends of the floor for the Hawks.

“I'm going to try to play him at some backup point at some times,” Pierce said of Reddish via Kevin Chouinard of AtlantaHawks.com. “I'm going to play him off the basketball. He is a very versatile offensive player and an underrated defender too.”

Reddish was selected 10th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, but there is a strong belief that he should have been drafted higher than that. The 19-year-old was actually considered a top-5 pick heading into his lone college season, but his stock went down because of his performance at Duke.

The Pennsylvania native was overshadowed by his more celebrated teammates — Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett. In 36 games with the Blue Devils, he averaged 13.5 points on top of 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

Reddish is included on Atlanta's NBA Summer League roster, but it remains to be seen if he will see action for the Hawks. According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the rookie forward is still recovering from a core muscle surgery.
