Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young had a stellar rookie season, and head coach Lloyd Pierce wants him to take the next step in his development in the upcoming 2019-20 campaign.

Besides urging Young to become the leader of the young Atlanta squad, Pierce also called out the incoming second year to become more than just a deadeye shooter but also a “dual threat” who can thrive even without the ball on his hands.

“Trae is so creative and dynamic with the ball in his hands, but I want him to be a dual threat,” Pierce said, per Ben Golliver of The Washington Post.

After shooting an unimpressive 34.2 percent from 3-point territory last year, Pierce wants Young to become an even bigger pick-and-roll threat and passer instead of obsessing over the three ball. Young is such a talented shooter, so the shots will eventually fall. However, he certainly can't be a one-trick pony.

Additionally, the Hawks will need a clear team leader to look up too. Young is probably the best player on the team now — though an argument could be made for John Collins — so he will have to step up and take that spot.

This is a lot to ask out of a 20-year-old with only one year of NBA experience, but if anybody can do it, it's Trae Young.
