Williams, 34, spent the last three-plus season with the Clippers before being traded on Thursday. He had expressed in the past that he was hoping to retire a Clipper, but the three-time Sixth Man of the Year had to pack his bags to return to his hometown of Atlanta. Williams will have to adapt to playing with a younger team full of up-and-coming NBA players and less of a competing mentality than the Clippers. Williams will likely fill in as a backup point guard for Atlanta.

While Williams has fallen off a bit this season, he believes he still has plenty left to offer Atlanta. Hawks fans will surely be hopeful that Williams can contribute as Atlanta chases a playoff spot. The Hawks are 22-22 and sitting in the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference.

As Lou Williams enters the next stage of his career, it will be interesting to monitor what he contributes and where in the league those contributions are made. Williams was likely hoping to compete for a championship this year, but after this trade he finds himself on a team scrapping for the playoffs. Will this demoralize him or motivate him? Only time will tell.
