The start of the regular season is now less than a week away with the preseason winding down to the last few games.

However, it appears that the Atlanta Hawks will be without the services of veteran big man Miles Plumlee for the first few weeks of the season, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN.

The injury to Plumlee takes a hit to the Hawks' frontcourt depth as he was slated to be the primary backup behind offseason addition Dewayne Dedmon. Fifth-year big man Mike Muscala will likely take up those minutes off the bench while the 29-year-old is sidelined.

Plumlee had been acquired by Atlanta as part of the trade that sent former All-Star big man Dwight Howard to the Charlotte Hornets. In his first five seasons, he has bounced around the league playing for the Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Phoenix Suns, and Milwaukee Bucks where he holds career averages of 5.1 points on 58.3 percent shooting from the field with 3.2 rebounds in 16.7 minutes per game.

He is set to enter the second year of his four-year, $50 million deal where he is slated to make $12.5 million for the upcoming season.  The Hawks are expected to experience a significant step back after the departure of both Howard and All-Star forward Paul Millsap over the summer.
