Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young couldn't get any happier after seeing several Black NBA coaches get the opportunity they have been waiting for.

Out of the eight coaching vacancies in the NBA, seven have been filled by Black NBA coaches. Aside from Nate McMillan who got his interim label with the Hawks removed, Ime Udoka (Boston Celtics), Jamahl Mosley (Orlando Magic), Chauncey Billups (Portland Trail Blazers), Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks) and Wes Unseld Jr. (Washington Wizards) have all been hired.

Moreover, Phoenix Suns assistant Willie Green is set to be the next head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, with the official announcement set after the NBA Finals.

Young, for his part, took to his Instagram stories to share his reaction to the news. He kept it simple, though, posting a fire emoji along with a photo of the coaches hired and the caption “love it.”

Like Trae Young, the rest of the NBA is undoubtedly hyped to see more and more Black coaches get rewarded for their work and competence–more than just diversity. Four of the said new hires were assistant coaches getting first-time chances on a head coaching gig.

As for the Hawks, while McMillan is not really a new hire, his initial deal with Atlanta is only on an interim basis until the end of the 2020-21 campaign. However, after leading the team to the East Finals, he  deservingly got the permanent post.

It is a big step for the NBA that has been previously criticized for the lack of Black leadership on the coaching end. Now, it sure looks like times are changing.
