If you want any proof of how good Trae Young has been in his rookie season, you don't need to look further than his performance for the Atlanta Hawks against the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday.
In their 114-112 loss to the Nets, the Hawks star recorded his first career triple-double. Remarkably, it was also the first triple-double by a rookie in franchise history.
Although the Hawks lost, that isn't much of a surprise to anyone anymore. After all, they were up against a Nets team that's firmly in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference.
Trae Young once again showed just how good he was with this performance though. He didn't shoot well (4-14), but he managed to contribute in a lot of ways.
He went 2-4 from three and 13-16 from the foul line. His 23 points were the second most on the team, with John Collins leading the way with 33 points.
Young led the team in assists with 11 and was second with 10 rebounds — again Collins led with 20.
The Hawks rookie has been overshadowed by Dallas Mavericks sensation Luka Doncic for most of the season. Many people have Doncic as the clear Rookie of the Year, but that shouldn't be the case.
Young has been fantastic and is definitely still in the running.
