The Atlanta Hawks haven't made the playoffs since 2017, a streak second-year point guard Trae Young wants to snap this season.

Young, who is putting up stellar numbers to being the season, says the Hawks can “sneak into the playoffs” in the wide-open Eastern Conference.

“To be honest, in the East – besides maybe the first three or four spots – it’s wide open,” Young told Sam Amick of The Athletic. “If you look at our schedule, we’ve had a super tough schedule to start the season. And the way we’re playing right now, if we continue to play this way and focus and lock in every night and give us a chance to win, I think we have a chance to sneak into the playoffs.”

In the 10 games he has played in this season for the Hawks, Young is putting up MVP-type numbers. He’s averaging 27.3 points while shooting 45.7 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from beyond the arc and 80.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Young is only in his second-year in the NBA, but he’s already established himself as one of the best passers in the game. The Hawks’ floor general was fourth in the NBA last season in assists per game (8.1). This season, Young is averaging 9.1, good for third place.

The Hawks are currently 4-7 on the season, good for 11th place in the East.
