The Atlanta Hawks finally have a star on the team in point guard Trae Young. The second-year guard has already made an All-Star team and is putting the city of Atlanta on his back.

Young, in a recent interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report before the NBA suspended play because of the coronavirus pandemic, touched on why he believes he was the perfect guy for the Hawks to draft to turn the franchise around:

“That excitement, that kind of buzz, that national attention and I just think they needed someone to come in, bring that fire back to the city of Atlanta,” Young said.

Young is name-dropped in rap songs and has established himself as one of the best guards in the NBA. The Hawks are still not winning games, but they do have a player they can market, which can help them recruit big-time free agents down the line.

The Hawks were only able to register 20 wins before the season was suspended. Young has appeared in 60 games for the Hawks in 2019-20. He's putting up a stat line of 29.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists in 35.3 minutes per game.

The 21-year-old Texas native is also shooting 43.7 percent from the floor, 36.1 percent from the 3-point line and 86.0 percent from the charity stripe.

Hopefully, the NBA season does resume at some point. Even though the Hawks were headed for the lottery again, basketball fans still miss watching Young shoot from almost half court on a nightly basis and nutmeg guys from time to time.

Plus, even if this is a lost season for the Hawks, the future is bright. Lloyd Pierce is already thinking playoffs in 2020-21.
