Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks is many things, but hirsute is not one of them. While many of his peers are known for stylish, flashy hairstyles, Young’s hair is not quite as impressive as many of his friends and teammates in the NBA.

As such, Young has been ridiculed by fans on social media with a rather callous meme that compares the Hawks All-Star to a lollipop that has fallen on the carpet and is covered with random bits of hair. Despite the rudeness of that comparison, Young himself posted the meme on Instagram with the caption “Until tomorrow…. #ICanLaughtAtMyselfToo.”

Indeed, Ice Trae was laughing for much of the 2019-20 NBA season before it was interrupted by the virulent coronavirus. In his second season, Young was one of the best players in the league and he was named as a starting guard in the All-Star game at the age of 21.

During his sophomore season, the former Oklahoma Sooner put up career-highs across the board, and he was also among the league leaders in a variety of categories including minutes played (2120, 16th), field goals made (546, 8th) and attempted (1249, 3rd), three-pointers made (205, 6th) and attempted (568, 5th), free throws made (481, 2nd) and attempted (559, 3rd), total assists (560, 2nd), assists per game (9.3, 2nd) and assist rate (45.6, 2nd).

Young is clearly one of the best young players in the league, and his stats in the shortened 2019-20 season bear that out. His hair? Well, that’s a concern for another day, but at least he can have a laugh about it.
