The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night to snap the team’s three-game losing streak behind a sterling 40-point performance from point guard Trae Young.

Per StatMuse, Young joined some elite company in hitting the 40-point threshold during the game:

So, that’s two Hall of Famers and two future first-ballot Hall of Famers? Not bad company for the 22-year-old Hawks star.

Most of Young’s damage came in the fourth quarter of the matchup, as he piled up an impressive 16 points in the period to help close the door on the Celtics’ comeback attempts. One such play showcased Young’s incredible touch on his jumper with this rainbow from the top of the key:

One of the major concerns for the Hawks during their recent slump has been the inability to close out games. On this night, the Hawks’ young All-Star took it upon himself to bring the team over the finish line—something he’ll need to do the rest of the season if the Hawks want to be in the thick of the playoff hunt.

For Young, during the last round of All-Star voting, he was only sixth among backcourt players in the Eastern Conference but it seems reasonable to expect him to make a second consecutive All-Star team, especially if he can continue to put up impressive quarters like his fourth against the C’s on Wednesday.

Beyond his offensive talents, Young has actually looked surprisingly feisty on defense at times this season, though his enormous offensive burden means he’ll never be able to perform on that end on every play.
