Trae Young, the sharpshooting guard of the Atlanta Hawks left a Summer League game with a quad contusion.

Young suffered the injury last Saturday against the New York Knicks. He logged in 21 points in that game — his best tally so far.

But come Sunday in their game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Hawks trainers and staff decided that it's best for their prized rookie to leave the game. He took just two field goal attempts before the Hawks decided to pull him out at halftime.

As reported by Kevin Pelton of ESPN, Hawks summer coach Chris Jent hinted that the quad injury is not too serious. The Hawks staff are just being cautious:

“We were just being cautious. he was sore to start the game. He caught a knee, went knee to thigh yesterday in the game and it just wasn't loosening up, so smart thing to do.”

Young, for his part, said:

“I'm going to try to get back in and get my body healed. It's really up to them (when I play). I want to be back for the playoffs for sure, get some more games under my belt and keep playing.”

In four Summer League games, Young had been averaging 14.8 points and 6.0 assists per game. A proven marksman back in college, Young hasn't found the stroke in the big leagues. He's shooting just 25 percent from the field and 18 percent from downtown.
