In his first two seasons in the NBA, Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young has established himself as an elite scorer and passer.

However, Atlanta has only won 49 games since trading for Young on draft night in 2018, something the star floor general is not happy about.

As the Hawks conduct their in-market bubble, Young talked about the “narrative” that he's only a guy who puts up good stats and doesn't impact winning.

“I hate the narrative of just being a scorer and a stats person,” Trae Young said, per Mark Medina of USA TODAY Sports

“Stats don’t mean anything. I don’t want that narrative to be I’m all about stats because I’m not. For me, stats is the last thing I’m bringing up. I’m all about winning.”

Young put up superstar numbers for the Hawks in 2019-20 before the season was suspended in March due to COVID-19. He averaged 29.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from beyond the arc and 86.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hawks' new franchise player made the All-Star team, though Young also thought he should have made one of the three All-NBA teams due to his stellar numbers.

The 2020-21 season is going to be a big one for Young. He told reporters he never wants to miss the playoffs ever again while he's in Atlanta.

Only time will tell if the former Oklahoma Sooner star can guide the Hawks back to the postseason in the Eastern Conference.
