Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young believes he's the “best rookie in this class.”

Young and Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic were traded for each other on draft night and are the two front-runners to win the 2019 Rookie of the Year award.

Doncic got off to a strong start for the Mavs, while Young was subpar to begin the season for the Hawks. As a result, pundits deemed Young a bust and were ready to crown Doncic the Rookie of the Year in November.

Since then, though, Young has been on a tear and is putting up stellar numbers.

In 80 games this season for the Hawks, Trae Young is averaging 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 8.0 assists per contest. The 20-year-old is shooting 41.9 percent from the field, 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 82.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Young has 29 double-doubles and one triple-double on the season. The Hawks have only won 29 games entering Tuesday, but the development of Young is the most important thing to come out of this year.

It's going to be interesting to see who wins the Rookie of the Year award. One thing is for sure: A certain fan base is going to be upset. Mavs fans really want Doncic to win it, while the Atlanta faithful are sticking behind Young.
