Atlanta Hawks rookie point guard Trae Young says his high school coach was the first person who let him shoot long distance 3-pointers.

Young says he was originally a shooting guard when he started playing competitive basketball and that shooting the ball just came so easy for him.

The guard, who was coached by his dad as well, says his high school coach never scolded him for shooting shots that were well behind the 3-point line.

Trae Young has been compared to Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who has revolutionized the game with his deep shooting from long range.

During his lone season at Oklahoma, Young was shooting 3-pointers from deep and wowing crowds with his accuracy. NBA scouts didn't think that was going to translate to the pros, but like he has done all season, Young has proved the critics wrong in that aspect as well.

In 71 games this season for the Hawks, Young is averaging 18.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.7 assists per contest while shooting 41.5 percent from the field, 33.5 percent from beyond the arc and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line. The Hawks' floor general leads all rookies in assists and is 10th in the NBA in that category.

Atlanta definitely has a special player in Young.
