Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is a fierce competitor who hates to lose and loves to compete at the highest level.

So no one should be surprised to hear that it “hurt” Young to watch the 2019 playoffs from a distance.

That feeling of missing the postseason lit a fire under Young, who has been training hard this summer so he can lead the Hawks back to the playoffs in 2019-20.

“I think for (the Hawks), we heard a lot about the rebuilding and all about (how) it’s going to take a while for us to get back to winning and doing big things, but we just want to speed up the process,” Young said, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. “Obviously, we want to be in the playoffs. I think for us, watching the playoffs this year — especially for me — it hurt. Like, I wanted to play; I wanted to keep playing.”

The Hawks haven't made the playoffs since 2017. In a wide-open Eastern Conference, Trae Young and Atlanta are eager to prove the world wrong and make a postseason run.

Young averaged 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 8.1 assists as a rookie while shooting 41.8 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from beyond the arc and 82.9 percent from the free-throw line. The Hawks are excited to see what Young is going to do in his sophomore season.
