Rookie sensation Trae Young is often compared to Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry. And on Tuesday, Young broke a record previously set by the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

According to the Atlanta Hawks, Young is now the only rookie to tally at least 30 points, 10 assists, and five three-pointers in his rookie season. Curry did it three times during his rookie year with the Warriors in the 2009-2010 season.

Young erupted for 33 points to lead the Hawks to a 130-120 win over the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night. The 20-year-old guard also tallied 12 assists and knocked down five of his 13 attempts from beyond the arc against the already-eliminated Pelicans.

The former Oklahoma standout, who was selected fifth overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, tied Curry's record earlier this month when he went berserk against the Chicago Bulls. The 6-foot-2 guard posted a career-high 49 points and tallied 16 dimes against Chicago on March 1, where he also shot 6-for-13 from the three-point region.

Young is a making a strong case for the 2019 Rookie of the Year award. Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic looked poise to bag the coveted plum for rookies earlier in the season, but Young is having a strong finish. Curiously, the Hawks and Mavericks engaged in a Young-for-Doncic trade during the draft.

The Hawks rookie averaged 23.3 points on top of 8.8 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 13 games this month. The Texas native, who is averaging 18.7 points on top of 7.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds this season, still has seven games to prove that he is the best rookie this year.
