Atlanta Hawks rising star Trae Young is the latest to pull out the Team USA's player pool for the upcoming FIBA World Cup tournament in China. However, it appears that it is a minor injury that has led to the incoming sophomore's decision to withdraw himself from the squad, and in the process end all hopes of his first shot at winning a gold medal for his country.

Young sent out a heartfelt message following his early departure, as he thanked Team USA for what turned out to be a very fruitful experience for him.

It would have been great to see one of the most promising studs we have in the NBA today light up the basketball court at the international level, but as it turns out, this is not going to be the case for Young.

The 6-foot-2 guard is coming off a tremendous rookie campaign with the Hawks, in which he averaged 19.1 points (on 41.8 percent shooting), 3.7 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 0.9 steals in 30.9 minutes per contest. Young also knocked down 1.9 triples per ballgame on a 32.4-percent clip, as he came in a distant second in the Rookie of the Year race, behind eventual ROY runaway winner Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks.

Much is expected from Young in his sophomore campaign as he continues to establish himself as the new face of the Hawks franchise.  Atlanta also added two promising lottery picks in last June's draft in De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish, so the Hawks will be fielding a very young, yet extremely talented lineup in the coming year.
