Atlanta Hawks rookie point guard Trae Young is not exactly having a great rookie season.

While his counting numbers are solid (15.8 points, 7.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game), he's not shooting the ball well at all, making just 39.5 percent of his field-goal attempts and 28.9 percent of his three-point tries.

For a guy who was drafted largely for his ability to hit the three-ball, that's not good.

Still, Young has lofty goals and wants to be the face of the Hawks franchise for years to come:

“My goal is to ultimately be to the Hawks what Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant were to the Thunder. Or what Stephen Curry is to the Warriors,” said Young, according to Keith Gordon of Maxim. “I was able to see Russ and KD from day one when they got drafted to OKC, so I know what’s possible and I realize it may take a little time. But I’ve definitely seen the blueprint up close and personal.”

Young played just one season of college ball, spending it at the University of Oklahoma. In his lone year with the Sooners, the 20-year-old averaged 27.4 points, 8.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 35.4 minutes per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the floor, 49.3 percent from three-point range and 86.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Known for his Curry-like range in college, many questioned Young's NBA chops, as his small stature and lack of athleticism had a large number of scouts wondering just how he would play defense on the professional level.

That's what makes it all the more important for Young to start getting his shot right.
